About Future Camp

Future Camp is a one-day workshop led by cultural anthropologist Grant McCracken, PhD. It is designed to introduce you to a powerful way of working with the future. Grant will offer the best models, methods and maps of change. He will show how these apply to a series of case studies, including the changes in the wellness trend, the creative economies, creator economies, celebrity culture, artisans, Gen Z, new notions of cuisine, new notions of retail, status and luxury consumption, pets, homes, families, parenthood, subcultures and corporate cultures. We will show how to use personal knowledge management (PKM) systems, artificial intelligence, scenario building and a number of analytical devices Grant has made "by hand." All and all, Future Camp will give you a system and a method for preparing your organization and your career for the future now rushing towards both.

Who Should Attend

Future Camp is developed for anyone who wants to understand the cultural shifts taking place today and be prepared to successfully navigate our dynamic culture. The knowledge you will gain at Future Camp can be applied to any business. Future Camp is for culture creatives, brand builders, entrepreneurs, marketers, designers, planners, strategists, innovators, investors, teachers, students, content creators, user experience (UX) designers, product managers, copywriters, social media managers, behavioral scientists, visual designers, brand managers, innovation consultants, customer insights analysts, interaction designers, digital transformation consultants, and art directors.

As recently as 40 years ago, we could spot and track the future and make ready for "impact." Now we are surrounded by chaos. Every one of us, every corporation, every career, is haunted by the possibility of change that comes "out of nowhere." Future Camp will introduce you to concepts and methods you can use to master the future instead of merely react to it.

Future Camp Sessions

MORNING
SESSIONS

Join Our Expedition
This first lecture is the picture of the day ahead and the system of predictions, models, methods, and maps we will use to make sense of the future.
Finding the Future
We will work on the kind of "pattern recognition" we can use to see the future.
Mapping the Future
We will show how to handle an individual trend, break it into its components, put it in new combinations and constellations, build scenarios, and use it to create warning for some clients and innovation for others.

AFTERNOON
SESSIONS

Modeling the Future
We will build models to see how they recruit new varieties of devices, subcultures, lifestyles, and experiments.
Harnessing the Future
We will look at a variety of trends, the ones that had a brief moment in the sun, the ones that matured to have influence and those that eventually shaped us in lasting ways.
A Test Case Study of the Future
In this last section we will apply what we've learned taking one or two trends and work on them Harvard Business School "case study" style.
